After a few months of insanity, I think things are finally settling down on my end. I’m home in Austin for the next month and plan to make the most of it, mostly by way of settling back into a comfortable, productive routine. This Type A lady loves a good routine.
A big part of feeling “normal” to me involves keeping in tune with my nutrition and fitness. But this can feel like a daunting feat, even for someone who works as a dietitian and plays as a healthy food/fitness blogger. So the purpose of this new blog series is twofold. First, I want to share my bits of manageable, totally doable weekday wellness things that you can replicate in your own way in your Monday through Friday life. Secondly, I want to hold myself accountable for making those little bits of wellness happen. Putting it down on paper (er, out to the blogosphere) helps me to keep it all in perspective. Sticking with a consistent health routine is much less overwhelming when it’s framed as a series of small decisions made one day at a time.
Here’s what I was up to this week:
monday: I was fresh off my brother’s wedding weekend (smiles, happy tears, drinks, cake) so the last thing I wanted to do was get into the gym. Buuut skipping a Monday isn’t the best way to start the week, so I pushed through and did this upper body workout. After getting loaded up on endorphins, I kept the momentum up, swinging by Snap for a quick dinner and then heading to the grocery store to load up on staples for the week.
tuesday: My arms and shoulders definitely felt the previous day’s workout. Into it. I woke up early to do housework before work and had dinner plans at the new Picnik brick and mortar, so my typical gym times were off limits. Fortunately, Todd’s Pilates has an awesome 12PM barre express class that’s short enough to take on a “lunch break,” burns enough to feel worthwhile, but doesn’t turn me into a sweaty mess who can’t go back to her desk afterward. Shoutout to Studio Hop for partnering with this spot!
wednesday: Such a next-level hump day. Laura led an afternoon boot camp in our office warehouse. It was a quick and dirty, 30-minute ass kicking, and a reminder that I don’t need a ton of time or even a gym to get my sweat on. I wiped off and headed to the absolutely excellent Emmer & Rye for dinner with a couple girlfriends. Yes.
thursday: I went into Thursday with really great intentions. I knew we had a work happy hour scheduled, so I set an early early alarm for an AM back workout. I set my alarm for 5:15 in the morning, and then slept right through it. The sleep was delicious and the happy hour lasted 7 hours.
friday: After several moments of indulgence and less sleep than I’d like this week, the game plan is to work, workout, run a few errands, and settle in for a night of Netflix. Would love a reco or two in the comments!
What’s on your weekend wellness agenda? I’ve penciled in a relaxing and restorative yoga class on Sunday to both end this week and begin the next.
